BRS working president KT Rama Rao addressing a delegation of students from the UoH at Telangana Bhavan on Monday.
Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has extended its full support to the ongoing protest by students against the Congress government’s decision to put the lands of University of Hyderabad up for sale.
Party working president KT Rama Rao announced this on Monday when a delegation of student union leaders and students from the varsity met him at Telangana Bhavan, seeking his support.
The students expressed anguish, explaining to Rama Rao that while the Congress government had previously allocated these lands for university use, the same party’s administration was now acting unjustly by auctioning them. Responding positively to their plea, he advised the students to expand their agitation to other central universities across the country.
Given that the university operates under the Centre’s jurisdiction, he assured the students of BRS’ support in raising the issue with the Union government. He also promised cooperation in facilitating a meeting with Union Minister of Human Resource Development Dharmendra Pradhan to address the preservation of the university’s lands.
Rama Rao also voiced concerns that using the Bakari Kancha lands for commercial purposes would destroy the area’s rich biodiversity and flora, disrupting environmental balance. Asking the students to coordinate with senior BRS leader Dasoju Sravan and the party’s student wing president Gellu Srinivas for further assistance, he suggested that the students approach the Union Ministry of Environment and urge intervention from the ministry on this matter.
The students announced their plans to extend their agitation to universities nationwide to protect both the UoH lands and the environment.
