Hyderabad: In a shocking revelation, the University of Hyderabad (UoH) students union said the university administration confirmed that no survey was conducted on 400 acres of varsity land, which was put under the hammer by the Congress government in Telangana.

The students who on Wednesday organised the ‘Chalo Admin’ programme in protest against the varsity land auction, citing the administration, said the TGIIC initiated the auction without following due procedure.

Varsity to refute claims on consent

According to the students union, the administration would refute the false claims that were propagated on the varsity’s stand regarding its consent to conduct the land survey.

Further, the students union said the administration would provide copies of the land-related documents to the union to ensure transparency. “The Registrar assured us to look into the biodiversity reports and studies that were done on the campus,” the students union said.

The administration also assured the students’ union of meeting and placing their demands before the executive council members.

EC meeting

The students said that the university would also finalise plans at the special executive council meeting to be convened on Thursday and the strategy would be discussed during the meeting between the students union and the administration.

The UoH students, teaching, and non-teaching community along with environmental groups are up in arms against the State government’s decision to auction 400 acres of university land, including the hugely popular centuries-old unique Mushroom rock formation.

Students who have been demanding the cancellation of the auction said the move would destroy the sensitive ecological balance and the thriving flora and fauna of the area.
