Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao slammed the ruling Congress for resorting to violence and intimidation against BRS councillors during municipal proceedings in Mancherial and Jangaon districts. He condemned the alleged stone-pelting on former BRS MLA Balka Suman and party leaders in Kyathanpally Municipality of Mancherial district.

He said that despite the BRS having a clear mandate, efforts were made to prevent its councillors from participating in the chairman election, leading to its postponement.

In a statement, the BRS working president charged that some police officials acted in favour of the ruling party and resorted to lathi-charge on BRS leaders who were protesting against Congress’s highhandedness. Equating the incident to the murder of democracy, he objected to cases being filed against MLA Kova Lakshmi and Balka Suman to intimidate them.

Referring to developments in Jangaon, Rama Rao said the Congress councillors behaved inappropriately towards a Dalit woman councillor who supported the BRS during the chairman and vice-chairman elections. He accused the ruling Congress, under Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, of encouraging anarchy from panchayat to municipal elections, and warned that the people would teach them a fitting lesson.
