Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao has called upon students across Telangana to launch a massive agitation under the banner ‘Vidyarthi Ranabheri’ against what he described as the ‘anarchy and betrayal’ of the Congress government in the education, employment and livelihood sectors.
Addressing student wing leaders at his residence on Tuesday, he directed the party’s student division to intensify protests from next month, focusing on pending fee reimbursement dues, deteriorating conditions in Gurukul schools and the overall collapse of the education system under the current Congress regime.
Golden era under KCR destroyed by Congress
Rama Rao reminded the gathering that the 10-year BRS rule under former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao ushered in a golden era for education in Telangana with the establishment of residential Gurukuls and colleges that provided quality education to lakhs of students from poor and middle-class families.
Stating that the Congress government was systematically dismantling these achievements and resorting to Goebbels-style propaganda by claiming nothing was done in the last decade, he said the responsibility of exposing the Congress government’s lies at every level lay with the students.
Mass agitations planned
From December onwards, large-scale protests will be organised at every Assembly constituency headquarters. Thousands of students will be mobilised to press for immediate release of pending fee reimbursement arrears.
A renewed agitation against the poor state of Gurukul institutions, from adulterated food to student suicides, will be launched, he said, adding that the earlier ‘Gurukul Baata’ programme had forced some reaction from the government, but the action turned out to be mere ‘acting’ by Congress leaders. He urged every student to maintain active social media accounts and aggressively counter the Congress government’s failures.
“Make your voice heard strongly on every issue – education, jobs and opportunities. The betrayal by Congress must be exposed on social media platforms,” he said.
Referring to the Congress’s election promise of 42 percent reservation for Backward Classes not only in local bodies but also in education and employment, Rama Rao also asked students to mount pressure until all commitments in the BC Declaration were implemented.
Deeksha Diwas in universities
Rama Rao announced that November 29, observed as Deeksha Diwas to mark the historic fast undertaken by Chandrashekhar Rao that eventually led to the formation of Telangana, would be celebrated grandly in all universities and colleges this year.
