Hyderabad: Disputing Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s claim that the Congress government had filled 70,000 government jobs, BRS working president KT Rama Rao challenged him to substantiate the claim with recruitment notifications and offered to retire from politics if the Chief Minister proved him wrong. Rama Rao recalled that the Congress government had admitted in the Assembly that only 16,978 vacancies had been filled in government departments.

“If Revanth Reddy proves that the Congress government has offered 70,000 government jobs, I will retire from politics. The youth have already designed your climax, which is going to be worse than that of Adolf Hitler,” Rama Rao said while addressing the BRS Yuva Sangrama Sadassu here on Saturday.

Ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections, the Congress released its Youth Declaration at the Saroornagar Stadium on May 8, 2023. The BRS organised the Yuva Sangrama Sadassu at the same venue to highlight what it described as the Congress government’s failure to fulfil those promises.

Alleging that the Congress had deceived the youth through its Youth Declaration, Rama Rao said the younger generation had been cheated by “an old jackal”. He claimed that the youth had already decided to dig the Congress party’s political grave in the State. During his speech, the BRS working president played videos of Congress leaders highlighting the promises they had made to the youth before the elections.

One video showed Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi promising two lakh government jobs within a year, a monthly honorarium of Rs 4,000 for unemployed youth, electric scooters for college students and other benefits. Another video featured the then TPCC president Revanth Reddy promising to constitute a Youth Commission and provide interest-free loans of up to Rs 10 lakh to young people.

Rama Rao said the Congress had made 24 promises under its Youth Declaration. “Did the Congress provide two lakh government jobs in one year? Have all the promises been fulfilled?” he asked the gathering, which responded with a loud “No”. Questioning how the Congress government should be described for deceiving the youth, Rama Rao asked whether it deserved the Chief Minister’s own “belt treatment”.

He said many young voters who had persuaded their grandparents to support the Congress were now regretting their decision. Charging that the party had cheated the youth through its Youth Declaration, he said they should write a “death declaration” for Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and the Congress.

Rama Rao stated that Congress leaders had started denying the promises after failing to fulfil them. Referring to the videos played at the meeting, he said TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud denied promising two lakh jobs within a year, while Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka denied promising a monthly honorarium of Rs 4,000.

He said that although both the Telugu and English calendars had changed since December 2023, there was still no sign of the Congress government’s promised job calendar.

Referring to the demand by police job aspirants to fill 20,000 vacancies, Rama Rao alleged that the Chief Minister had refused to issue recruitment notifications. The Chief Minister had said he would not provide jobs even if unemployed youth consumed Endrin and jumped into a well, the BRS working president alleged. He appealed to parents of unemployed youth to reconsider the consequences of voting the Congress to power.

Rama Rao recalled that Rahul Gandhi had visited Ashok Nagar and appealed to the youth to remove BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao from power. He said Rahul Gandhi had also promised to fill two lakh government jobs within a year. “What happened to those promises?” he asked.

Claiming that Telangana had witnessed “lootification” instead of job notifications, Rama Rao said the youth had realised that Rahul Gandhi’s campaign was not Mohabbat ki Dukan but Dokhe ka Makaan.

He said that Revanth Reddy had become Chief Minister to fulfil the aspirations of Telangana’s youth but was instead working to fulfil the Congress party’s ambition of making Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister, while leaving the State’s youth disappointed.
