Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Wednesday strongly condemned the verbal abuse and physical assault on Alampur MLA and BRS leader Vijayudu by Congress MP Mallu Ravi, terming it a direct attack on democratic values. He said the incident exposed the intimidatory politics adopted by the Congress to silence the opposition.
Rama Rao said the assault on an elected MLA showed the Congress’ disregard for the Constitution and rule of law. Demanding an immediate apology from Mallu Ravi, he asked Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to take moral responsibility and initiate action.
“The opposition must be confronted politically, not through threats or violence,” he said, warning that the BRS would not remain silent over attacks on its leaders.
The incident occurred during a foundation stone-laying ceremony for CC road works at Paipad village in Waddepally mandal of Jogulamba Gadwal district on Tuesday. A dispute erupted over protocol during the ceremony, leading to an altercation between MP Mallu Ravi and MLA Vijayudu. The MP as seen in a video that was widely shared, abused and pushed the MLA after being questioned about the protocol, prompting police to intervene and disperse both the leaders and their followers.
