Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao condemned the police excess against former BRS MLAs Peddi Sudharshan Reddy, Gandra Venkataramana Reddy and scores of party activists in Mulugu on Monday. He demanded the resignation of Minister D Anasuya alias Seethakka, whose followers allegedly forced tribal youth Chukka Ramesh to die by suicide.
BRS activists led by former MLAs Sudharshan Reddy and Venkataramana Reddy staged a peaceful protest over the death of Ramesh, demanding action against Congress leaders who harassed him and forced him to take the extreme step. However, the police obstructed them and resorted to lathicharge before arresting them.
Reacting to the police excess during the arrests, Rama Rao questioned whether peaceful protests had no place in a democracy. Stating that the police were selectively enforcing the law to suppress BRS protests, he said some police personnel were acting like Congress puppets and gave a free pass to Congress leaders while cracking down on BRS workers.
“Raiding villages in the dead of night and arresting 2,000 BRS activists is not policing. It is persecution,” he said, demanding that the police reveal on whose orders the crackdown against the BRS cadre was implemented. He said that despite receiving enough warnings from the courts, the police were not learning their lessons.
The BRS working president warned that police officers acting like political agents would face consequences. He accused Seethakka of implementing her own constitution in Mulugu and demanded her immediate resignation for misusing power, harassing tribals, and allotting houses to her party loyalists rather than genuine beneficiaries.
“People of Telangana are fully aware of the illegal businesses of Seethakka, including her illegal sand mines and atrocities against the tribals using the forest department. Unless she stops them immediately, people will teach her a fitting lesson,” he warned. He declared that the BRS would continue its fight until justice was served to Ramesh and his family.
