Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Wednesday held the ruling Congress responsible for indulging in politics of murder and demanded an impartial probe into the death of weaver Vengala Venkatesham. He sought identification of those responsible and demanded that they be brought to justice, irrespective of their position. He visited Venkatesham’s family at B Y Nagar in Sircilla and consoled his wife, mother and daughter.

Speaking to the media, Rama Rao said some Congress leaders were arrested in connection with the death, but suspected that they could be only actors and that the actual perpetrators were to be identified.

“Whatever the political background, bring out the truth and ensure justice to the family,” he said, asserting that common people should not be made victims for political gains.

The BRS working president also questioned the police action in the case. He said though five persons were reportedly arrested, only two were remanded and three others were released on station bail. He urged the police to conduct the investigation transparently and without political pressure.

He also referred to allegations that Venkatesham’s death was being portrayed as suicide and demanded that the facts be established through a comprehensive investigation.

Rama Rao said Venkatesham’s family was living in difficult conditions and that its request for a new house had allegedly not received a response for months. He said he had spoken to the District Collector and asked the government to sanction a house. If the government failed to do so, the BRS would construct one for the family, he said. He vowed to stand by the family until justice is served.

Apart from depositing Rs 3 lakh in the name of Venkatesham’s 11-year-old daughter who is studying in Class V, he assured to bear all her educational expenses. The BRS also provided immediate financial assistance to the family and assured support in the future as well.
