Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao extended greetings to weavers of Telangana, on the occasion of National Handloom Day on Thursday, hailing their unparalleled craftsmanship and resilience.
“Our weavers can create miracles with their looms. They have expertise to weave sarees that fit inside a matchbox,” he said.
Recalling the plight of weavers in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, Rama Rao said the looms were virtually destroyed during the previous Congress regime. He credited former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for reviving the sector by introducing path-breaking schemes and bringing back migrant weavers who had left for Surat and Bhiwandi in search of livelihood.
Under the BRS regime, he said initiatives like Chenetha Mitra, Netannaku Cheyutha, Netanna Bima, Bathukamma Sarees, loan waivers, and pensions breathed new life into the handloom community.
“They have turned nerves into yarn, blood into colours, sweat into sarees, and eventually, introduced civilisation to humankind,” he added.
