Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao called for State-wide celebrations to celebrate the party’s victory against the State government’s proposed Rs 18,500 crore power tariff hike, which was rejected by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC).

Accordingly, the BRS cadre have been asked to organise celebrations in all mandal and Assembly constituency headquarters on October 30 and 31.

He thanked the ERC for rejecting the proposals of the distribution companies by giving its verdict in favour of people of the State. He termed it a significant triumph for citizens and the main opposition.

In a statement, Rama Rao noted that while the BRS did not hike electricity charges over its decade-long governance, the current Congress government proposed the hefty hike within just 10 months.

Hence, he said the BRS as the main opposition actively participated in public hearings of ERC and argued on behalf of the people, leading to the ERC’s decision against the tariff hike.

“This is a historic moment where the ERC has fully dismissed the proposals, due to strong public opposition,” he said. He stated that the ERC’s decision reflected a rare regulatory stance prioritising citizens over the State’s mandates.

The BRS working president said as per directions of party president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, party senior leaders including himself effectively presented the public concerns before the ERC. “This is a win for every Telangana household, a victory we must celebrate on behalf of the people,” he stated.
