Hyderabad: As polling for urban local bodies concluded on Wednesday, BRS working president KT Rama Rao and BRSLP deputy leader T Harish Rao said the ruling Congress was engaged in large-scale misuse of power during the municipal elections.

Both leaders thanked party workers and voters who supported the BRS, expressing confidence that the results would reflect the public discontent against the Congress government.

In a post on X, Rama Rao said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was resorting to abuse of power out of fear of defeat. The Congress was worried about a repeat of its setbacks in the panchayat polls, he said, adding that the Congress was looting public money and misusing it to influence the electoral outcome.

“The Chief Minister will have to pay a dear price for misusing police machinery to harass and attack BRS leaders and activists. We will not spare Revanth Reddy for abandoning governance and pushing the State into a crisis,” he said, appreciating the party cadre for their heroic fight against the Congress’s anarchy. He said the response to the BRS campaign from Adilabad to Alampur had boosted the party cadre’s morale and confidence.

Harish Rao also charged the Congress with violating the Model Code of Conduct from the nomination stage to polling day. He said Ministers, MLAs and ruling party leaders misused official machinery and intimidated Opposition candidates.

He also criticised certain police officials for acting under pressure from the ruling party, stating that such actions were against the spirit of democracy. He maintained that money power and conspiracies would not alter the people’s verdict.
