Hyderabad: TRS working president and MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao came down heavily on the Central government on Wednesday for changing its paddy procurement policy without proper planning and deciding not to procure parboiled rice. The Centre’s decision has had an impact not only on Telangana, but also the neighbouring States of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha where parboiled rice accounts for major portion of Rabi production, he said.

The Minister advised the BJP State leaders including party president Bandi Sanjay to understand the far-reaching consequences of the Centre’s decision and prevailing agro-climatic conditions in the State before jumping into conclusions and blaming the State government for everything. The Centre’s decision to not purchase parboiled rice had bigger impact on Telangana as the paddy procurement had increased from 24.3 lakh tonnes in 2014-15 to 1.41 crore tonnes in 2020 -21, he pointed out.

Addressing a gathering of Congress leaders led by senior politician Ch Laxmi Narasimha Rao from Karimnagar district who joined TRS at Telangana Bhavan here, Rama Rao stated that the TRS MPs have been fighting with the Centre in Parliament and demanding a clear announcement on paddy procurement since the winter session began but in vain. He pointed out that neither BJP not Congress MPs had joined the protests nor did they question the Centre in this regard.

“Instead, they are criticising TRS MPs who have been fighting for farmers of the State. Have they lost their mind? Don’t they have responsibility towards people who elected them?” he questioned. He stated that the BJP MPs were only interested in divisive and communal politics, and not interested in working for development of the State. He demanded that they list out their achievements after their election as MPs from Telangana.
