Hyderabad: Making a fervent appeal to the student community, especially BRSV representatives to reconnect with people at the grassroots, BRS working president K T Rama Rao on Thursday emphasised the role of the student community in driving the desired change especially during the times of bad administration and ineffective governance.

Addressing a meeting of the BRSV, the student unit of the party at Telangana Bhavan, he wanted the students to become the voice of the people to turn to social media to fill the void in the print and electronic media that was finding itself under duress, ever since the Congress came to power in the State.

Stressing the importance of students as the source of new and emerging leadership, he highlighted their part in the BRS party and its 25-year legacy. Many who joined the party as student leaders have since become elected representatives and ministers, serving the party and the people in various capacities.

Asking BRSV activists to step up and join the frontline in the fight for the people, he said the BRS leadership believed that the time had come for new leaders to take charge and continue the party’s mission of serving the people of the State.

He wanted the BRSV to organise its meetings at the district level and engage with local issues. It gives them first-hand experience with the problems their communities face and helps them become more effective leaders and advocates for change. The student community’s resilience had consistently been a beacon of hope, especially in times of crisis. The community gets emboldened once the young minds prove that they were committed to making a difference.

He paid homage to the student warriors who fought valiantly for the cause of Telangana under the leadership of the party supremo K Chandrashekhar Rao and highlighted the struggles against formidable opponents like N Chandrababu Naidu and Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to achieve statehood for Telangana. Rama Rao criticized the current Chief Minister, referring to him as “Chitti Naidu,” and pointed out his lack of knowledge and understanding. He mocked the Chief Minister’s recent statements, including claims about Hyderabad being surrounded by the sea on three sides and Bhakra Nangal being in Telangana. Rama Rao expressed his frustration with the Chief Minister’s incompetence and the detrimental impact on governance.

He also criticized the Congress government for failing to fulfil promises and deceiving students. He condemned the government’s actions, including the mistreatment of students and the mishandling of reservations for SC and ST students and emphasized the need to reschedule the Group 1 Mains exams
