Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Monday met tribal farmers in Lagacherla, where they have been fighting against the forced takeover of their lands for the proposed Pharma City. In a symbolic gesture, he named the newborn daughter of Jyothi Naik, a pregnant tribal farmer who continued her struggle even as the Revanth Reddy government imprisoned her husband. The baby was named ‘Bhoomi Naik,’ signifying the inseparable bond between the tribals and their land.

Rama Rao suggested three names – Bhoomi, Dhatri, and Avani – of which the couple chose Bhoomi. He hailed Jyothi Naik’s resilience, recalling how she fought tirelessly despite government repression and even took her legal battle to Delhi. He assured the farmers that their struggle would not go in vain and demanded the State government reconsider its land acquisition policies.

Earlier, the BRS working president was given a grand welcome from tribal farmers in Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy‘s Kodangal constituency. Tribal farmers at Hakimpeta, Lagacherla, Rotibanda Thanda, Polepalli, and Pulicherlakunta Thanda, shared their concerns over land loss. He reiterated BRS’s commitment to protecting farmers’ rights and slammed the Congress government for neglecting tribal issues.

Earlier, he visited Himayatnagar junction in Moinabad, Rangareddy district, where he hoisted the BRS party flag and paid tributes to Dr BR Ambedkar and Babu Jagjivan Ram. Later, he participated in the Rythu Maha Dharna organised by the BRS in Kosgi mandal headquarters.

Senior leaders, including former Ministers P Sabita Indra Reddy and V Srinivas Goud, BRS leader RS Praveen Kumar, MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy, and former MLA Balka Suman, among others accompanied him.
