Hyderabad: In a strong retaliation to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s orchestration that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and the AIMIM were extending hospitality to illegal Rohingya refugees, TRS working president K T Rama Rao on Friday pointed out that refugees and illegal immigrants could enter the country only because of the failure of the Centre to secure the country’s borders.

Addressing a meeting of the Arya Vysya community here, Rao countered Union Minister Smriti Irani’s accusation that the TRS had allowed a safe stay for Rohingyas asking how the Rohingyas had in fact reached the city.

“You have been ruling in Delhi for the last six years. If there are infiltrations and illegal immigrants, what are Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh doing? Isn’t it you who gave them voter ID and Aadhaar cards?” he asked, also recalling the ‘surgical strike’ comment from BJP State president Bandi Sanjay.

“After giving them voter ID cards and Aadhaar cards, now they are talking about surgical strikes and bombs. What do they mean? They will bomb and destroy Hyderabad?” he asked.

Continuing to attack the BJP’s narrative targeting the old city, Rao pointed that during a local election, the discourse should be on infrastructure, roads, drainages and such civic issues. But the BJP was instead of talking of Akbar, Babar and Bin Laden. “Who are Babar and Bin Laden? Have they come to Hyderabad? Do they have votes here? Why should we talk about them in Hyderabad?” he asked, also finding fault with the MIM kicking up a storm by talking on the demolition of PV Gyan Bhoomi and NTR Ghat.

The TRS working president also lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s poll promise of Rs 15 lakh in the Jan Dhan accounts to each citizen. He asked how many in the audience had received the promised Rs 15 lakh in their bank accounts, and said the BJP leaders were capable of making only false promises and statements.

Continuing his attack on the BJP-led NDA government which had announced a Rs 20 lakh crore Covid-19 relief package, Rao asked how many business persons had benefited from the package. Terming it another ‘jumla’ from the BJP, Rao recalled the promise of two crore jobs a year made by Modi and said instead of more employment, people who were working in LIC, and Air India among other PSUs were actually losing their jobs with the NDA government putting everything on sale.

Listing out various developmental activities taken up by the TRS government including round-the-clock power supply, Annapurna free meal scheme, development of roads, expansion of CCTV network and She Teams, Rao asked what the BJP had done for Hyderabad.
Stating that there were more developmental activities to be taken up in Hyderabad, Rao said the issues pertaining to nalas and lakes too would be solved once the TRS wins the GHMC elections.
