Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao on Saturday served legal notices to Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar and BJP MP Dharmapuri Arvind for making what he described as baseless and defamatory remarks against him and his family.

Rama Rao demanded that both the BJP leaders tender an unconditional apology within five days. Making such statements without any evidence was purely malicious and amounted to cheap politics, he said.

Failure to comply with the demand would compel him to initiate appropriate civil and criminal proceedings, his lawyers stated in the notices served on the two BJP MPs.

Rama Rao pointed out that despite a defamation case related to Bandi Sanjay’s earlier remarks pending before a court, he had once again made baseless and objectionable statements, forcing him to issue fresh legal notices through his lawyers.

In the notice sent to the Union Minister, Rama Rao’s lawyers stated that during a press conference on January 23, Bandi Sanjay had alleged that the BRS working president’s family had amassed thousands of crores through phone tapping. He had also claimed that phones of celebrities were tapped. The lawyers said these statements were completely false. They took exception to Bandi Sanjay repeating similar allegations even when a defamation case against him was already pending before the City Civil Court.

Meanwhile, in the notice sent to Dharmapuri Arvind, the lawyers stated that his remarks alleging drug abuse and drug supply were objectionable.

Rama Rao, a former Minister who worked for the development of the State, particularly the expansion of the IT sector, was being targeted with reckless and baseless allegations without any evidence, which amounted to political vendetta, the lawyers said.

They demanded that both MPs immediately withdraw their statements and issue an unconditional public apology to Rama Rao. The notices warned that failure to respond within five days of receipt would invite strict action under civil and criminal laws.
