Hyderabad: Coming down heavily on the Congress government for its inefficiency in protecting the check dams, BRS Working president KT Rama Rao wanted the State government to constitute a People’s Enquiry Commission as demanded by the world-renowned Water Man Rajendra Singh.

He also demanded the Revanth Reddy government to bring the sand mafia and culprits, who were planting bombs on Telangana’s assets, to book. The Water Man had inspected the check dam, which was reportedly blasted at Adivi Somanapally and another structure at Tanugula.

He observed that check dams could get damaged or breached due to heavy rains in monsoon but wondered how they could get damaged during December, when there would be relatively less rainfall.

“There are few vested interests. The reasons for blasting the check dams should be enquired and a People’s commission should be constituted,” Rajendra Singh had demanded after the inspections.

Rajendra Singh’s report was a slap in the face to the Congress Ministers, who came up with concocted stories that the dams collapsed due to natural calamities, the BRS working president said.

“The Water Man was openly stressing that it was a “man-made destruction. He has proven with evidence that they drilled holes with machines, inserted gelatin sticks, and detonated them. Yet, this “Chitti Naidu” government remains completely unmoved,” Rama Rao slammed.

The BRS working president wondered just because the check dams were an obstacle for looting sand, would the mafia blow up check dams, which were built with crores of rupees of public money. “Is this a government or a den for gangster’s? ” he asked.

The BRS government built check dams to increase groundwater levels. In contrast, they were blasting them and turning the farmers’ fields into deserts. “Should the farming community’s interests be sacrificed for the profits of your sand contractors?” Rama Rao asked the Congress government.

Back then, they planted bombs on the Kaleshwaram project for the sake of elections. Now, for the sake of the sand mafia, bombs were being planted with gelatin sticks on check dams, he slammed.

Demanding the Chief Minister to respond to the Water Man’s observations, the BRS working president said “You are incapable of ensuring development but experts at destroying the existing assets.”
