Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao extended a warm welcome to Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, urging him to establish the company’s India operations in Hyderabad. Altman recently announced plans to set up an OpenAI office in India soon, and Rao seized the opportunity to pitch Hyderabad as the ideal location.
In a tweet, Rao welcomed Altman, who is set to visit India next month, highlighting Hyderabad’s credentials as the perfect gateway for OpenAI’s ambitions in the country. He described the city as a vibrant hub for innovation, equipped with all the necessary infrastructure to support a global tech leader like OpenAI.
Rao emphasized Hyderabad’s dynamic innovation ecosystem, which includes institutions like T-Hub, WE Hub, T-Works, Telangana State Innovation Cell and the Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad. These organizations have positioned the city as a powerhouse for startups and technological advancement.
The BRS leader noted that Hyderabad was already a preferred hub for global tech giants such as Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Meta, Apple, and Qualcomm, thanks to its deep pool of tech and startup talent. This makes it an ideal base for OpenAI to tap into India’s skilled workforce, he said.
Rao also highlighted Telangana’s bold efforts to establish itself as India’s AI capital. He pointed out that the State government had declared 2020 as the “Year of AI” and launched several AI-driven initiatives to foster innovation. These steps had strengthened Hyderabad’s position as a leader in the global AI landscape.
With its unique blend of talent, innovation, and global connectivity, Rao stressed that Hyderabad was poised to drive the AI revolution.
