Hyderabad: Coming down heavily on the Congress government for failing to keep its promises, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao on Thursday wrote an open letter to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, demanding that adequate funds be allocated in the 2026-27 Budget for implementing the six guarantees and 420 promises made by the Congress during the 2023 Assembly elections.
Stating that nearly half of the Congress government’s term had already elapsed, Rama Rao said about 95 per cent of the promises remained unfulfilled and urged the government to allocate funds at least in the forthcoming Budget. Telangana society would not tolerate further delay if allocations were not made this time, he said.
In the letter, Rama Rao said the Congress had come to power by announcing six guarantees but had failed to implement them even after presenting two Budgets. He demanded that substantial allocations be made for women, elderly persons, students, youth and farmers, as promised under the guarantees. Calling on the government to allocate funds in the Budget to fulfil commitments made to BCs, SCs, STs and minorities under various declarations and clear the dues pending for the last two years, he also reminded the government of its promise to give statutory backing to the six guarantees and asked it to honour the assurance.
Rama Rao demanded that funds be allocated to increase pensions for elderly persons and widows to Rs 4,000 per month, as promised during the Assembly elections. He also sought allocations to implement the Mahalakshmi scheme under which Rs 2,500 per month was promised to women, stating that not a single beneficiary had received the benefit even after 25 months.
Urging the government to allocate funds for enhancing Rythu Bandhu assistance to Rs 15,000 and clear pending dues, apart from extending financial support to tenant farmers and agricultural labourers as promised in the Congress manifesto, the BRS working president also demanded budget allocations for filling two lakh government jobs, implementing a job calendar and providing unemployment allowance, as promised to youth. He called for allocations to extend financial assistance to auto drivers and provide social security measures.
Referring to the Congress manifesto released in the presence of national leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, Rama Rao said the party had made 420 promises but had failed to implement even five per cent of them. He alleged that the guarantee cards distributed to households had now turned into ‘Due Cards’, exposing the government’s failure. Women were owed Rs 62,500 each under various schemes, while pension beneficiaries had to get up to Rs 1 lakh over the past 25 months. He also alleged delays in providing benefits such as educational support cards, scooters for girl students and fee reimbursement.
Pointing out that the government had failed to fulfil promises made to unemployed youth, including unemployment allowance of Rs 4,000 per month, and had not issued adequate job notifications, he said auto drivers were owed Rs 24,000 each as per the promised financial assistance.
Demanding transparency, Rama Rao urged the government to announce the funds required to implement all six guarantees and 420 promises and allocate the necessary amount in the Budget. If this was not done, the BRS would intensify its agitation and question the Congress government on behalf of the people, he added.
