Hyderabad: A suspended sub-inspector of police was arrested by the Kukatpally police, allegedly after a woman constable accused him of cheating and sexually exploiting her under the pretext of marriage.
The cop, identified as Suresh Kumar, belonged to the 2018 batch and had served at Kollur Police Station.
According to the police, Suresh had developed a close relationship with a woman constable posted at Kukatpally Police Station after the two became acquainted during service.
According to the complainant, Suresh allegedly assured the woman that he would marry her, after which they continued their relationship. Trouble began when the woman later pressed him to fulfill his promise.
Officials said he reportedly started avoiding the issue and eventually told her that marriage was not possible.
Suspecting that he was trying to deceive her, the woman confronted him and later lodged a complaint at Kukatpally Police Station.
Based on her statement and supporting evidence, police registered a case and attempted to question Suresh.
Officials said the officer allegedly switched off his phone and remained unavailable during the initial inquiry.
Following the complaint, department authorities placed him under suspension. He was subsequently traced, arrested on Wednesday, and presented before a local court. Police said further investigation is in progress.
