Lagacherla attack: CPI (M) demands withdrawal of cases against farmers

Hyderabad: Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram said the attack on the collector in Lagacharla village of Kodangal was an indication of farmers’ anger building up against the Congress government.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Veerabhadram said the resistance highlighted the growing unrest in the Chief Minister’s home constituency, where the proposed Pharma Village project has been met with significant backlash. The State government should take note of the fact that farmers were not ready to part with their lands for the pharma village, he said, adding that the attack of the collector and other officials by the farmers were the result of strong opposition to the project.
Stating that the government should stop acquiring lands for the pharma village, Veerabhadram asked the government to withdraw cases against the farmers. “There is unrest among the farmers due to the wrong policies of the Congress government, ” he said.eom
