Lagacherla: Left parties leaders taken into custody
Many local leaders, including CPI ML Parigi Division Secretary Mallesh, Agricultural Workers association district president Venkatesh and others were taken into custody.
Vikarabad: A few local leaders of Left parties from the district and other places were taken into custody by the police and denied permission from visiting Lagacherla and speaking to the aggrieved families in the village. However, CPM State Secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram and others later visited the village.
The CPM and Left parties had given a call to visit Lagacherla on Thursday. The aim was to conduct a fact finding study over the November 12 incident when the situation went out of control and Vikarabad Collector Prateek Jain and KADA Special Officer Venkat Reddy were allegedly attacked. Accordingly, many left parties were planning to visit Lagacherla on Thursday but the police prevented them heading towards the village. Many local leaders, including CPI ML Parigi Division Secretary Mallesh, Agricultural Workers association district president Venkatesh and others were taken into custody.
It may be recalled that on Tuesday, Women organisations JAC members were denied permission from visiting Lagacherla and Rotibanda thanda for a fact finding study and interaction with tribal farmers. Meanwhile, a delegation of leaders from the CPM State unit has started off from Hyderabad to Lagacherla.
Coming down heavily on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for undemocratic restrictions being imposed in Lagacherla and neighbouring villages, Tammineni Veerabhadram reminded that the Chief Minister had announced a seventh guarantee in addition to Congress party’s Six Guarantees.
He had assured that democracy would be restored in the State and people would be permitted to stage protests in a democratic way. Accordingly, the barricades at Jyothiba Phule Praja Bhavan were removed but save for this action, undemocratic governance was being witnessed in the State, he told media persons before leaving for Lagacherla.
“Already, 13,000 acres has been acquired at Ibrahimpatnam for Pharma City. Why is the Congress government then trying to acquire lands in different areas for pharma villages? The land acquired for Pharma City is being handed over to private companies,” he said.
