Hyderabad: It’s been over a year since the canteen at Hyderabad’s popular open cultural space Lamakaan at Banjara Hills was only serving snacks to customers, thanks to the pandemic. However, the canteen is fully functional now and will be serving both lunch and dinner as earlier.
The adda for many culture vultures and students alike is also gearing up to host plays. The place will now remain open from 10 am to 10 pm every day.
A local art enthusiast late M Hassan began the construction of Lamakaan as a residential building in 1972. After he died in 2010, his nephew Ashhar Farhan and his wife Humera along with friends – film producer and actor Elahe Hiptoola and activist Biju Mathew turned it into the iconic cultural space we know it as today.
In its 11 years of existence, Lamakaan has turned into a favourite among city folk who often come here for plays, film screenings, and art exhibitions.
