Law and order collapsed under Congress rule: RS Praveen Kumar

Speaking to the media at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, Praveen Kumar highlighted the absence of a dedicated Home Minister and the frequent changes in the DGPs, which have led to poor management of law and order. "During former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao's tenure, Rs 700 crore was allocated in the first Cabinet meeting to prioritize law and order, establishing Telangana as a national role model. However, the current situation is dismal," he commented.

Hyderabad: BRS leader RS Praveen Kumar raised alarm over the sharp rise in crime rate under the Congress rule in Telangana, over the last one year. He said the law and order had collapsed in the State, with deterioration of public safety.

Addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, Praveen Kumar pointed out the lack of a dedicated Home Minister and the frequent changes in the DGPs, resulting in lack of efficient management of law and order. “Under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s administration, Rs 700 crore was allocated in the very first Cabinet meeting to prioritise law and order, making Telangana a role model for the nation. Today, the situation is deplorable,” he remarked.

The BRS leader said crimes such as rapes against minors had risen by 82 per cent, murders for monetary gain by 40 per cent, and cybercrimes by 50 per cent. Two-wheeler thefts and ganja smuggling have surged, while police morale has plummeted. “Even police families are now staging protests, and suicides within the force have increased,” he stated, adding that cases are selectively filed based on directives from Congress party’s State headquarters at Gandhi Bhavan.

Citing specific incidents, Praveen Kumar mentioned the police assault on women in Lagacherla during midnight at the behest of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s brother Tirupathi Reddy and the lack of action following the suicide of a former sarpanch Sai Reddy in the Chief Minister’s native village of Kondareddypally.
“Police inaction against Congress MLAs contrasts starkly with the harassment of opposition leaders like Errolla Srinivas and Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy for protesting for public causes,” he added. He stated that Telangana police, once a symbol of efficiency, has become a puppet of political interests under Congress rule.
