Lawyer booked for cheating woman in Telangana’s Bhadrachalam

Kothagudem: The Bhadrachalam town police have registered an FIR against a lawyer on the charges of cheating a married woman, estranged from her husband, with a false promise of marrying her.
According to police, the woman in question was living separately with her children at YSR Colony in the town due to family disputes. She approached the lawyer, Bharani Venkata Karthik of Medical Colony in the town, to proceed legally against her husband.
Karthik promised her to take up her case and would ensure justice was done to her. In due course of time, the lawyer took advantage of her condition and developed a sexual relationship with her on the pretext of marrying her.
When the woman got pregnant, she asked Karthik to marry her as he had promised, but the latter refused. He threatened her to go for an abortion, otherwise he would post messages about her on social media.
The woman lodged a complaint with the police on Tuesday night seeking action against the accused Karthik. The local Sub-Inspector of Police, G Vijaya Laxmi, booked a case against him and the investigation into the case is underway.
The accused Karthik was said to be absconding and the police launched a search operation to nab him. It was learnt that when the woman wanted to lodge the complaint the police initially refused to book a case against the accused.
The case was booked after she approached the SP seeking justice.
