Hyderabad: Bathukamma represents the cultural spirit of Telangana. And soon people will be able to learn everything about this festival — right from arranging the flowers, to the songs and dance – on a YouTube channel named ‘Gadigolu’.
Started by Sudheer Kumar Phandra, a businessman from Jagtial, the YouTube channel will also contain videos of every aspect of the State — including its language, culture, food, textile, agriculture and history.
“I believe that Telangana has a very rich cultural and historical heritage that many are not aware of,” states Sudheer, adding, “While people think that Bathukamma is only a nine-day festival, in some places the festival is celebrated for about thirty days. People across the nation are not aware of our history, language or people. Through this channel I plan on showcasing all the aspects of this beautiful State.”
Sudheer via his Facebook group Gadigolu, in association with Language and Culture Department of the Telangana Government and Digital Media of Telangana, also organised a Bathukamma video competition. Several people from various districts of Telangana took part in the competition. On Sunday, the jury selected the best videos and presented trophies to the winners, at Ravindra Bharathi auditorium, Secunderabad.
Chairman of the Telangana Grandhalaya Parishad, Ayachitam Sridhar; Director of Language and Culture Department, Mamidi Harikrishna, and Editor of Telangana Today, K Sreenivas Reddy, attended the event and congratulated the winners.
Speaking on the occasion, Harikrishna, compared the amalgamation of people coming from various corners of Telangana to Bathukamma. “People coming from rural parts of the State bring along the freshness of the Tangedu flowers. It is just like a wonderful bouquet representing the entirety of Telangana,” he said.
