Khammam: Everyone in a democratic society should be aware of the law, suggested judicial officers of the district court.

A ‘Legal Literacy Camp’ was organised at Gollagudem in Khammam Urban mandal in the district on Saturday under the aegis of the District Legal Services Authority to create awareness among the people about the laws.

The first additional Junior Civil Judge, Noothakki Shanthi Soni and second additional Junior Civil Judge, Ponnapalli Mounika addressing the gathering said by knowing the basic level of law one could recognise and challenge injustices more effectively.

Similarly, one should not lose his or her peace of mind by getting involved in conflicts because of their transient emotions and differences with others. Cases could be resolved by means of compromise between the two parties wherever such a possibility was available, they suggested.

The petitioners should try to resolve the case through conciliation without wasting valuable time wandering around the courts. The individuals have to respect their parents, uphold humanitarian values and should not distance themselves from parents for the sake of property, the judges said.

One has to realise that sending elderly parents to orphanages would put him at risk of facing similar situations in the future, they said and stressed on the need for parental supervision over their children as small mistakes made at a young age could lead to irreparable situations in life.

The judges informed that a Lok Adalath would be held from September 1 to 11 in Khammam. Khanapuram Haveli CI, Venkanna Babu and SI, Kumara Swamy were present.
