Leopard scare at Defence Labs School in Hyderabad; Forest dept installs camera traps
The Forest Department has set up camera traps at Defence Laboratories School, RCI Hyderabad, after leopard sightings were reported. The school alerted parents to be cautious. If leopard movement is confirmed, officials plan to install cages to trap the animal.
Hyderabad: The forest department is setting up camera traps at the Defence Laboratories School, RCI Hyderabad at Balapur after reports of the security staff allegedly sighting leopards in the premises.
The forest department received information about the movement of leopards in the campus from the management.
“We are not sure for now about the presence of leopards. Camera traps are being installed in the campus to record the movement of the leopard or any other big cat,” said officials. If the movement of the leopard is recorded in the cameras, then officials will set up cages to trap the wild cat.
The school management had issued a notice to the parents asking them to be vigilant and guard their children. The notice read “as per the instructions from our management committee, it has been brought to your attention that two leopards have been sighted roaming near the RCI premises. In view of this, all parents are requested to take utmost care of your children and not allow them to go outside alone under any circumstances until further notice.”
In recent times, wild cats were spotted around Pahadi Shareef, Shamshabad and Mamidpally by local people. In RGI Airport premises wild cats or jungle cats are frequently spotted.
