Jagtial: Movements of a leopard were reported on the outskirts of Dharmapuri temple town, prompting forest officials to issue an alert to nearby villagers.
Farmers spotted the leopard in paddy fields near a petrol bunk on Kamalapur road over the past three days and informed the forest department. Acting on the alert, forest beat officer Jeevan and his staff visited the site and examined pugmarks along the paddy field banks and near a brick kiln.
Jeevan urged residents of Dharmapuri, Ramayapalli, Kamalapur and Nagaram to remain vigilant and avoid venturing alone to the outskirts. He advised farmers to visit fields in groups, work together, and return by 4 pm. Shepherds were told not to take livestock for grazing outside the village.
He also appealed to the public to alert forest officials immediately upon sighting a leopard or any wild animal, instead of attempting to attack it.
