Hyderabad: “If you can get angry, why can’t you get romantic?” questions actor and former Miss India Meenakshi Chaudhary.
Talking about the lip-lock scenes in her upcoming movie ‘Khiladi’ with Ravi Teja, she says “If you’re emotional, why can’t you show it? These are all human emotions that we portray as actors. That’s our job. As an actor, I was taught in acting school that you can’t judge a character. You won’t be doing complete justice if you’re judging it. Don’t judge the character that you are playing. We all have certain emotions. It’s not like people don’t kiss off the screen. We’re displaying emotions that are relevant to human emotions. We don’t do anything extraordinary. Yes, people look at it differently. But, it’s all part of acting and what our job entails,” the former Miss India adds.
‘Khiladi’ also stars Dimple Hayathi, and Anasuya Bharadwaj in key roles and is also being released in Hindi. The character that Meenakshi is playing is closer to her real life.
Meenakshi’s debut flick ‘Ichata Vahanalu Niluparadu’ made a decent noise at the box office. “It’s a big thing that I am getting the opportunity to share screen space with a big star early in my career,” she says.
Doing her bit of homework to perform on-screen was a big task, she says. “Matching the energy level of a star like Ravi Teja garu was so challenging for me. His comic timing and his clarity on everything he does… I would do my homework perfectly before going on to the sets, and do everything to learn the dialogues. I make sure that the delays aren’t happening because of me. Ravi Teja garu is such a superb co-star to work with… He would give his time to make us settle, comfort, and be very supportive. All day, my homework was to match his energy levels on-screen, and other than that, my character is closer to who I am,” Meenakshi says.
Throwing more light on the romance part in action thriller ‘Khiladi’, the actor says, “In terms of talking about the importance of it, it would not be there if it’s not required. If it’s there for the sake of it, it doesn’t make sense to the story. Ravi Teja garu isn’t somebody who would do something just for the sake of it. He would do it only if the story has some relevance to it.”
The actor says that her main criteria to select a film isn’t how many minutes she is going to be there in the film. “For me, what contribution I’m making to the story and the character I play are important. How the story drifts if my character is removed, which is an important thing for me to understand. Getting that much opportunity and exposure in my very second film itself is a great thing. I hope ‘Khiladi’ will impress the audiences,” she signs off.
