Hyderabad: A patient suffering from end-stage liver ailment, Venkata Subba Reddy received a new lease of life when surgeons from Gleneagles Global Hospitals, Lakdikapul successfully conducted a liver transplant surgery, after receiving a piece of matching donor liver from his wife, Mumtaz.
Subba Reddy was suffering from a chronic liver disease and his health condition was progressively worsening. As luck would have it, Mumtaz’s liver was compatible and the doctors decided to go ahead with the transplant surgery. Post transplantation, the couple hailing from Prodattur, Kadapa district, are stable and have recovered normally.
“Subba Reddy’s liver was severely damaged and required immediate transplant. His wife’s family members came forward to donate their liver in order to save their daughter’s husband. Coincidentally, only Mumtaz’s liver was compatible to Subba Reddy. The husband was successfully operated in March 2021 and had a smooth recovery and now he leads an active and healthy life,” Dr. Raghavendra Babu, senior liver transplant surgeon, Gleneagles Global Hospitals said.
Dr K N Chandan Kumar, lead transplant physician said, “Patients like Subba Reddy need strong support from the family, and we are happy that all members of his family stood by his side in the times of distress”.
