Liver transplant at Kamineni Hospitals in Hyderabad

The donor cadaver liver for the patient, who hails from Pollachi, near Coimbatore, was available when a 38-year-old woman suffering from chronic kidney ailment, was declared brain dead under Jeevandan organ donation initiative.

Hyderabad: Transplant surgeons from Kamineni Hospitals, Hyderabad, have successfully performed a cadaver liver transplant on a 45-year-old male patient who was suffering from end-stage liver disease along with several pre-existing medical conditions including diabetes, hypertension and recurring encephalopathy, a press release said.

The donor cadaver liver for the patient, who hails from Pollachi, near Coimbatore, was available when a 38-year-old woman suffering from chronic kidney ailment, was declared brain dead under Jeevandan organ donation initiative, on May 5. A week after the surgery, the patient is gradually recovering, doctors said.

The hospital’s liver transplant team was led by Dr Rajasekhar Perumalla, Director, Hepatobiliary and Transplant surgery along with other specialists including Dr Biswarup Paul, in-charge anaesthesia and ICU, Dr Santosh M. Narayankar, Gastroenterologist.
