Hyderabad: The State government deposited Rs 275.31 crore into the accounts of 94,695 farmers as on Monday as part of the ongoing waiver of crop loans up to Rs 50,000. A total of Rs 63.05 crore was credited into the accounts of 20,663 farmers on Monday alone.
Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy said the entire loan waiver amount would be deposited into the accounts of 6.08 lakh farmers by August 30. When the entire world was affected by Covid-19, it was farmers, who bravely continued with their activity and supplied food, he said.
Keeping in view the needs of the agricultural sector in the State, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao laid focus on the irrigation sector and ensured the supply of power to the agricultural sector round the clock. The Chief Minister instilled confidence among farmers by introducing Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bhima, he said.
With these pro-farmers initiatives taken up in the last seven years, Telangana had become a rice bowl of the country. The main objective of the State government is to ensure that farmers achieve financial stability, he said, advising farmers to lay more emphasis on cultivating crops having more demand in the market.
At a separate event, Niranjan Reddy underscored the need for protecting the environment as it would protect everyone and added that Haritha Haram is receiving accolades at the national and international levels.
Speaking after inaugurating a nursery mela organised by the Horticultural Department on the PVNR Marg (Necklace Road), the Minister said the green cover in the State had increased with this programme. Telangana is in the forefront in developing man-made forests. This would be the only wealth that can be created for future generations, he added.
