Local body polls: Congress dominates ZPTC and MPTC nominations ahead of High Court stay
Ahead of the High Court's stay on local body elections, a total of 119 nominations were filed across ZPTC and MPTC constituencies in Telangana. Congress emerged as the frontrunner with the majority of nominations.
Hyderabad: As many as 16 nominations were filed for the Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTC) and 103 for Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTC) before the High Court’s stay order on local body elections on Thursday.
Interestingly, of the 16 nominations filed for ZPTCs, 10 were filed by Congress candidates, two by CPI (M) and three by independents. The highest number of nominations – seven – were filed in Siddipet.
Similarly, of the 103 nominations filed for the MPTCs, 60 were filed by Congress candidates, 18 by BRS candidates and 12 by independents. Among the 31 districts, the highest number of 17 nominations were filed in Bhadradri Kothagudem while no nominations were filed in Jangaon, Medak and Suryapet.
