Hyderabad: The global e-sports industry is experiencing massive growth in 2026, becoming one of the fastest-growing sectors in digital entertainment and media. What was once considered a niche gaming culture has now evolved into a multi-billion-dollar industry that attracts investment from major technology companies, global brands, sports organisations and streaming platforms.
Industry experts estimate the global e-sports market could surpass USD 5 billion in the coming years, driven by sponsorships, live-streaming revenue, media rights and international tournaments. Competitive games such as BGMI, Valorant, League of Legends and Counter-Strike 2 continue to dominate the e-sports ecosystem, drawing millions of viewers worldwide.
India is emerging as one of the fastest-growing e-sports markets globally.
Analysts predict the Indian gaming and e-sports sector could grow by nearly 18 per cent annually over the next decade due to affordable smartphones, expanding 5G connectivity and rising internet penetration in tier-II and tier-III cities. India’s young digital population is also contributing significantly to the growth of online gaming communities and e-sports audiences.
The Indian government has started recognising gaming and e-sports as part of the country’s digital economy and creative industries. Under the AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics and Extended Reality) initiatives, several States are introducing policies focused on gaming infrastructure, startup support and employment generation. Maharashtra’s recently approved AVGC-XR Policy aims to create gaming hubs, skill-development centres and thousands of jobs in the digital entertainment sector.
Mobile e-sports remain a major growth driver across Asia, making competitive gaming more accessible to younger audiences. Indian e-sports organisations like S8UL are gaining global recognition, while streamers and professional gamers are building large online fan bases through content creation and tournaments.
Experts believe the future of e-sports will be shaped by AI-powered broadcasts, creator-led communities, immersive fan experiences and digital advertising, positioning e-sports as a major pillar of the future entertainment economy.
