Hyderabad: The City Police continued to strictly enforce the lockdown in the city on Wednesday. Though people and vehicles were on the roads in large numbers during the four-hour relaxation period from 6 am, barricades were set up on the roads and vigil was increased in the residential colonies and bylanes adjacent to the main roads once the lockdown came into effect.

According to officials, about 3,400 cases booked for lockdown violation in Hyderabad, 1,100 cases in Cyberabad and 2,400 cases in Rachakonda until 7 pm. With the police advising citizens to plan beforehand and purchase groceries and other essentials and not to rush to shops at the last moment, many were seen hitting the road soon after 6 am.

Shops which were usually jam-packed had a few customers coming steadily without much rush. Barring a few junctions and market places, other places wore a deserted look with movement of only emergency and essential service vehicles and personnel once the lockdown started.

Just before 10am, the City Police started patrolling the roads with sirens alerting citizens about the lockdown and asking them to get back to their homes. The police personnel continued intensified vehicle checking and those found violating lockdown rules and venturing out on the roads unnecessarily were detained and their vehicles seized.
