Hyderabad: The Privileges and Ethics Branch of the Lok Sabha Secretariat on Tuesday issued a notice of ‘Breach of Privilege’ and ‘Contempt of the House’ to ‘Telangana Today’ and ‘Namasthe Telangana’ newspapers based on a complaint filed by Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind.
He complained to the Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla that the two newspapers had published “false and distorted reports” of the House proceedings during the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech on the debate on motion of thanks to the President’s address in Rajya Sabha, referring to bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
Arvind alleged that the Prime Minister had not criticized the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, “except that he had disapproved the manner on which the entire episode was choreographed by the then Government”. However, the newspapers had published provocative articles against the Prime Minister, he alleged.
The notice was emailed to the editors by a Deputy Secretary of Lok Sabha secretariat and the newspapers were asked to submit their replies to the Speaker within 72 hours i.e by February 25, 2022.
