Nalgonda: The Telangana Tourism Department has launched the much-awaited scenic boat ride from Nagarjuna Sagar to Srisailam, coinciding with the first day of Kartika Masam on Saturday. Nature enthusiasts and tourists have been eagerly anticipating this journey, which promises breathtaking views along the Krishna River.
Despite being planned for the past five years, the launch was delayed due to insufficient water levels in the Nagarjuna Sagar dam and the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the extensive rainfall during this monsoon season has ensured adequate water levels from Srisailam to Nagarjuna Sagar, enabling the Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation to finally commence the boat (launch) journey.
The 120-kilometer journey takes approximately six hours, covering scenic spots such as Nagarjuna Konda, Nandikonda, Saileshwaram, and the lush forests of Nallamala. On the first day, tourists from Telangana and neighboring states flocked to experience this unique travel opportunity.
In addition to the boat journey from Nagarjuna Sagar, the tourism department also launched a new tourism package providing launch services from Somashila in Nagar Kurnool district to Srisailam. An air-conditioned launch, capable of accommodating 120 passengers, was inaugurated at the shores of Kolhapur Mandal’s Somashila.
The journey to Srisailam covers 120 kilometers and lasts approximately seven hours. The ticket prices are set at Rs 2,000 for adults and Rs 1,600 for children, covering one-way travel only. Passengers will need to arrange their accommodation and transportation at Srisailam independently.
The boat services will continue as long as the water level in the Nagarjuna Sagar dam remains at or above 575 feet and depending on the demand from travelers.
This new initiative by the Telangana Tourism Department is expected to boost tourism in the region, offering an incredible experience amidst the natural beauty of the Krishna River and the Nallamala forests.
