Adilabad: Long queues were seen outside an LPG distribution agency in the city on Friday as consumers rushed to book and collect domestic gas cylinders amid reports of a supply shortage linked to the ongoing West Asia crisis.
Consumers of a local LPG agency lined up early in the day to place orders and collect cylinders after reports of a shortage of the essential commodity. Many were seen carrying empty cylinders and waiting for long hours for their turn.
Several consumers said they were worried about the possibility of a prolonged shortage and had come early to secure cylinders.
Agency operators said cylinders would be supplied only to consumers who had booked LPG either online or over the phone. They added that steps were being taken to streamline supply and minimise inconvenience to consumers.
Officials also appealed to the public not to panic and assured that efforts were underway to address the shortage.
Meanwhile, owners of hotels, roadside tiffin centres and snack stalls said they were facing difficulties due to the lack of commercial LPG cylinders. Some establishments were forced to temporarily shut their operations because of the shortage.
A few business owners said they had resorted to using firewood to continue operations until normal supply of commercial cylinders resumed.
