We often struggle to maintain our beauty regimen, and are often on the lookout for the right skincare solution. At times, people also consult a dermatologist to choose what is best for our skin. Hyderabad-based Sharmila Gayathri Chalasani, an entrepreneur, has come up with a solution for all of us with her website ‘GlaMate’ where she offers to give one of the best beauty shopping experiences to her customers.
Gayathri’s dream of being an entrepreneur, coupled with her struggle to find the right beauty products for her personal use, made her start something on her own. So, after completing her Master’s in Computer Science at the University of Cincinnati, USA, she decided to head back to India and focus on beauty products that are the most essential things used in a person’s day-to-day life.
Explaining the idea and concept behind her new venture, GlaMate, Gayathri says, “Going back and forth between India and the USA called for frequent lifestyle changes, and my skin had a hard time adjusting to it. Even after purchasing products by going through hundreds of reviews, ratings, and ‘bestselling’ tags, most of them didn’t show any significant results, and I ended up with more skin problems than I previously had.”
Trial and error wasn’t a good decision for Gayathri’s sensitive skin, and advice from friends obviously didn’t come to fruition. “So there I was, making frequent trips to the dermatologist’s clinic, coming back with prescriptions and an empty wallet. This experience led me to brainchild this one-stop solution now called GlaMate,” she elaborates.
Calling this venture a one-stop beauty place and one-of-a-kind e-commerce service, she stresses that “Customers can create a beauty profile by taking a simple and fun quiz to get a brief analysis of their skin and hair requirements”. “Our algorithm analyses the profile and suggests a myriad of products with matching scores that will positively work best for them,” she assures potential clients.
Customers can compare the products by looking at their scores and pick the one they deem best. And once a customer proceeds to buy their chosen product, the prices of the same product offered by different retailers are shown, saving shoppers the hassle of hunting for the best price. “In short, we are a one-stop platform where customers can get personalised recommendations and enjoy price comparisons as well,” concludes Gayathri.
