Hyderabad: Losing the passport can be extremely stressful, particularly while travelling or planning an abroad tour. However, timely action can minimize any disruption to travel or identity safety.
Here are the steps you need to follow if you have lost your passport or it has been stolen from you.
If the passport is lost in a foreign country, the Indian Missions in the country concerned need to be approached. The Missions will issue an emergency certificate, which can be used to travel back to India.
This emergency certificate can be used for further processes in India, RPO Hyderabad, J Snehaja said on Friday.
In case the passport is lost in India, the person has to approach the MeeSeva Centre and obtain a lost certificate, which is issued only after police clearance. On the basis of this certificate, the passport application is processed.
“An FIR is not required but a lost certificate should be obtained from any of the MeeSeva centres. A lost passport is issued only after pre-police verification. After police clearance, the MeeSeva Centre will issue a lost certificate. We are in regular touch with the police department on this issue,” Snehaja added.
