Mahabubabad: The Telangana State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has registered a case over an incident in which a farmer sustained a head injury while waiting in line for urea in Mahabubabad district.
High Court advocate Rama Rao Immaneni lodged a complaint regarding the incident that took place at Burki Thanda on August 21. According to him, an elderly and physically challenged farmer, Ajmeera Lakku, fell on the staircase of an Agro Centre, suffered a serious head injury, and was rushed to a government hospital for treatment.
Despite waiting for hours with his wife Vijaya, the farmer could not procure even a single bag of urea. The district administration, led by Collector Adwait Kumar Singh, failed to provide the necessary facilities for persons with disabilities at the Agro Centre, the advocate alleged.
Rama Rao urged the commission to direct the Chief Secretary to initiate action against the district administration for neglecting its responsibility to provide disabled-friendly facilities under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
He also sought compensation for the injured farmer, to be paid by the district administration, as determined by the commission.
When contacted, the advocate told Telangana Today that the SHRC has registered the case (No. 2136/36/20/2025) following his complaint, and a notice would be served to the concerned authority when the case comes up for hearing.
