Hyderabad: The Mahabubabad district police, which on Wednesday refused to give permission to a protest programme planned for Thursday by the BRS, has gone one step ahead and clamped prohibitory orders on the district.

In an official statement issued by SP Sudhir Ramnadh Kekan, it said Section 163 BNSS-2023 (Section 144) would be in force in Mahabubabad district centre and across the district on Thursday .

“There should not be more than four people in a crowd, the SP said in a statement, adding that legal action would be taken against those who violate the law.

The BRS had staged a sit-in protest in front of the Mahabubabad SP camp office on Wednesday night seeking permission to hold a maha dharna to protest the attack on tribal, dalit and poor farmers in Lagacherla.

The BRS had planned the Maha Dharna on Thursday at the Mahabubabad district headquarters, in which party working president KT Rama Rao was slated to take part. However, the SP denied it.

The BRS had been appealing to the police for the last two days for permission for the dharna, but the authorities did not respond. Following this, the BRS leaders staged the protest in front of the SP office, demanding immediate permission.

The police denied permission, stating that Lagacherla was not in Mahabubabad and citing inconvenience to the public among other reasons.
