Hyderabad: Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule’s announcement that the State government has initiated the process to merge 14 villages from Telangana has triggered concerns and debates in different sections.
Claiming that Maharashtra government has revenue records, Chandrashekhar Bawankule said the 14 villagers were voters from the State and would be merged with Chandrapur district in Maharashtra, according to reports.
These 14 villages located are Rajura and Jiwati taluks share borders of Adilabad in Telangana with Maharashtra. A high-level meeting was chaired by Bawankule in Mumbai and representatives of 14 villages and Chandrapur district officials also attended the meeting, the reports said.
Interestingly, in the past, many villages, especially those from Nizamabad and Adilabad districts wanted to be merged with Telangana. In 2018, about many villages from Dharmabad in Nanded district had even passed a resolution seeking merger with Telangana.
In 2019, leaders from Nanded, Nalgaon, Bhokar, Degloor, Kinwat and Hathagaon from Maharashtra had met former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and urged him to consider merger of their villages with Telangana.
Similarly, BJP MLA Shivraj Patil from Raichur City constituency had also demanded merger of the city with Telangana.
All these demands were made after being impressed with the Telangana government’s farmer-friendly policies, including Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima and others.
Raising concerns over the Maharashtra Minister’s announcement, Nayini Anurag Reddy, an entrepreneur said on X “In 2022, 14 villages from Maharashtra wanted to join Telangana. Why? Because they believed BRS Chief K Chandrashekhar Rao would give them better welfare, power and dignity than their own State,”
“In 2025, under Congress, Maharashtra wants to take 14 villages from Telangana. Why? Because our leadership is collapsed and clueless. This is what happens when you are clueless, some claim your land, some divert your water and some sit in other States, redrawing your map,” Anurag Reddy stressed.
