Hyderabad: Telangana Mahila Congress president Sunitha Rao has demanded the party’s State leadership to give women due recognition in filling up nominated posts, failing which protests would be staged at Gandhi Bhavan.
Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, the Telangana Mahila Congress president said as a BC community (Mudhiraj) member and a woman, she was eligible for a nominated post. There were about 60 lakh to 70 lakh Mudhiraj community members in the State, she stressed.
“Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had promised to consider me for the MLC position. Mahila Congress women had struggled a lot in getting the Congress party to power in Telangana and their efforts should be recognized,” she said.
“It is our right. If the leadership does not consider our demands, we will stage protests on the steps of Gandhi Bhavan. TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud will also be obstructed from entering the Bhavan. If any injustice is meted out to women, we will fight for our rights,” Sunitha Rao warned.
In July early this year, she had staged a protest in New Delhi and lodged a complaint with the AICC leadership against the State leadership, alleging that injustice was meted out to them in filling up nominated posts in the State. Among 37 corporation chairperson posts and other nominated posts that were filled up, not even 10 percent was allocated for women, she had pointed out.
With an eye on the local body elections, the Congress in Telangana had announced that nominated posts would be filled up at the earliest. The State leadership had been assuring the leaders that those, who strived for the party’s success in the past, would be considered for the posts.
