Malkajgiri civic body to modernise traffic signals at key junctions

Hyderabad: Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) has chalked out plans to modernise traffic junction signals to ensure commuters’ safety, with the upgrade focusing on improving the functioning of signals at key junctions.
On Tuesday, MMC commissioner T Vinay Krishna Reddy held a review meeting on the maintenance, functionality and modernisation of traffic signals.
Officials told the commissioner there were 82 signal locations within the MMC limits, comprising 73 traffic junction signals and nine Pelican signals. Of these, 72 locations were operational, while 10 signals were out of service due to various reasons, according to a press release.
The commissioner directed officials to coordinate with the departments concerned to quickly restore signals that were damaged or removed due to flyover construction or works undertaken by other agencies and ensure there was no disruption to public movement.
The state government granted administrative approval for a new three-year traffic signal maintenance and modernisation project.
