Hyderabad: In a bid to tackle rising traffic congestion and improve road safety, the Malkajgiri Police have announced restrictions on the movement of heavy and medium motor vehicles during peak hours.

Commissioner of Police Avinash Mohanty issued orders in this regard on Saturday, regulating vehicles such as DCMs, vans, water tankers, concrete mixer trucks, lorries, JCBs, tractors and private buses on key routes within the commissionerate limits. The restrictions will be in force daily from 7.30 am to 11.30 am and 3.30 pm to 10.30 pm.

Officials said the decision was taken following an increase in vehicular density, which has led to frequent traffic snarls, a higher risk of accidents and rising pollution levels, especially during peak hours.

However, the TGSRTC buses and school buses have been exempted from the curbs. These vehicles, along with other restricted categories, will be allowed to operate during non-peak hours between 11.30 am and 3.30 pm and 10.30 pm to 7.30 am.

Authorities clarified that vehicles needing to ply during restricted hours must obtain prior permission from the Deputy Commissioners of Police (Traffic I and II) of Malkajgiri Commissionerate.
