Malkajgiri Traffic Police book 321 drunk driving offenders in weekend drive
The Malkajgiri Traffic Police in Hyderabad conducted a special weekend drive against drunk driving, catching 321 offenders, most of them two-wheeler riders. Offenders were categorised based on their Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC), with some recording dangerously high levels.
Hyderabad: The Malkajgiri Traffic Police conducted a special weekend enforcement drive against drunk driving, during which 321 motorists were caught driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to traffic officials, two-wheelers accounted for the majority of violations with 249 cases, followed by 59 four-wheelers, 11 three-wheelers, and two heavy vehicles.
Police categorised the offenders based on their Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels. Of the total, 284 offenders recorded BAC levels between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml, 26 offenders had levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, while 11 offenders registered extremely high levels ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml.
All the offenders will be produced before the court, officials said.
Senior traffic officials warned that drunk driving is a serious offence and stated that if an intoxicated driver causes a fatal accident, they will be booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Meanwhile, during the week between March 1 and March 7, courts disposed of 228 drunken driving cases. Among them, five offenders were awarded jail along with a fine, ten were given a fine along with social service and 213 offenders were fined.
