Hyderabad: The Shamshabad Special Operations Team along with Madhapur police on Friday nabbed an automobile thief, who took cars and bikes on rental basis and sold them. He is reportedly involved in about 20 offences and police recovered six cars and one bike, all put together worth Rs 70 lakh.
The arrested person was identified as G.Mahesh Nuthan Kumar (27), a mobile technician from Ghatkesar of Medchal-Malkajgiri district and a native of West Godavari of Andhra Pradesh.
Mahesh, who is an engineering graduate, was earlier arrested for stealing gadgets from his workplace. Since 2016, he was involved in several theft cases in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, West Bengal and Maharashtra.
According to Cyberabad Police Commissioner V.C.Sajjanar, Mahesh shares a room in men’s hostels in the selected city and after gaining confidence of his roommate escaped with their ID proofs including Aadhaar card, driving licence and cash.
“He then took self-drive vehicles on rent from different companies and removed the GPS devices and original number plate from the vehicles. He then affixed fake number plates and further sells them to earn easy money,” Sajjanar said.
Mahesh stole both four and two-wheelers by taking them on rental basis from companies in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharastra and West Bengal.
Following a complaint from the management of a rental car agency in Madhapur, the SOT and Madhapur police formed into special teams and with the help of technical clues identified and nabbed the suspect.
