Hyderabad: A man was arrested here on Monday on charges of stealing digital cameras after taking them on rent from people in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. The Punjagutta police recovered 10 cameras and a laptop from him.

The man, identified as Chunchu Praveen Kumar (32) of Lothkunta in Alwal, and a native of Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh, had contacted different people who offered to rent out their digital cameras. “Praveen Kumar checked for advertisements on portals and contacted the owner.

After submitting some documents as collateral, Praveen would collect the camera and later switch off his mobile phone,” said AR Srinivas, Joint Commissioner of Police (West).

Based on a complaint, the Punjagutta police caught him on Monday and recovered the stolen cameras. On questioning, Praveen Kumar told the police that he had previously worked with a YouTube channel and claimed that he had acted in a few movies. He stole cameras from different persons in Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. The police produced him before court, after which he was remanded in judicial custody.
